Now that the Toyota Corolla Hybrid has officially staked its claim in Japan, what better time than now to reflect back on the life of this best-seller. 47 years ago, America was introduced to the very first Corolla and the two have been inseparable since. Some of us old timers here at Lithia Toyota of Springfield still remember those glory days, and now that it's sold its 40-millionth unit, we hardly even know where the time went.
That's right, folks. Our favorite automaker sold their 40-millionth Corolla to some happy customer in the US last week. Unfortunately for them, they don't know who it was.
Now, one would think that on a momentous occasion such as this, Toyota would have the red carpet ready roll across every dealership in the nation. However, since the Corolla shares the same platform as the Toyota Matrix, their sales numbers have been added together for a while now; hence the confusion. Then again, that's not stopping them from celebrating everything we've always adored about our signature sedan of the hour.
"America's love affair with the Corolla began in 1966 and the passion is still burning," says Jack Hollis, vice president of Marketing at Toyota. "As we celebrate this 40 millionth milestone, we are grateful to all those who have owned and loved their Corollas for the past 47 years and proud of the generations of Corolla Chief Engineers for their enduring vision."1
With that said, come feel the love behind the wheel of a Corolla at our dealership here in Springfield, OR. After all, milestones like these don't happen by accident.
