We'll admit, it took a bit of getting used to, but ever since these EVs joined the ranks of our new and used cars here at Lithia Toyota of Springfield, we just keep finding new things to adore about them. After all, the savings alone that the 2013 Toyota Prius Plug-in provides were more than enough to have us singing its praises. Add in that sporty little 1.8-liter I-4 engine that gets up to 98 horsepower and 105 lb.-ft. of torque, and the love continues to grow.

Oh yes, with each new EV that's come our way, we can't help but be impressed with the advancements they possess. And now that we've gotten a first look at the Toyota P002 EV Racer, we can't help but get excited for what the future holds.

If the name sounds familiar, that's because the Toyota P002 EV Racer was our favorite automaker's entry into the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb last year. Not only that, but after roaring through the 12.42-mile course and ascending 4,720 to the finish line at the summit, it also came in first place in the EV division last year.

Well in an effort to turn that victory into a bonafide winning streak, the gearheads at Toyota went and did some remodeling for this year's event. With a top speed of 143 mph, an extended EV driving range and improved aerodynamics, the Toyota P002 EV Racer has never been more ready to take home the gold. And if you'd like to be there to see it in action, then head on down to Colorado for the race on June 30.

But if you'd rather stay local and go for a spin around Springfield, OR, then your test drive awaits you at your friendly neighborhood Toyota dealership. Just don't go crazy on the racing, okay?
