Yaris vs. Yaris iA: One of these Subcompacts is Not Like the Other

700 × 263
Recently, a new version of the Toyota Yaris has arrived in Springfield—a sedan version. But the differences between the Yaris hatchback and the Yaris iA sedan are more than just skin deep.

The Toyota Yaris iA is actually a holdover from the Scion brand, and critics agree it maintains more of the sporty, youthful spirit Scion was known for when you get behind the wheel. It also boasts two more significant advantages over the original Yaris—it gets better fuel economy, and is a 2017 IIHS Top Safety Pick.

With its more practical hatchback body style, however, the Yaris does offer better cargo volume than its svelte sedan sibling, though not by much. The Yaris can store 15.6 cubic feet of gear and groceries, while the Yaris iA has 13.5 cubic feet to play with.

Both subcompact models deliver excellent fuel economy, low cost to own and operate, solid reliability, and strong technology features for the price, including voice recognition and Toyota Safety Sense.
